Grants
The Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation makes over $6.5 million in grants annually to over 1,000 organizations in the broad areas of the arts, community development, education, environment, health, human services and religion.  While it predominately supports St. Louis area nonprofits, grants are also made to national and international charities.  The majority of these grants, nearly $6 million, are granted on the advice of a donor or at the direction of a donor’s estate through donor advised, field of interest, scholarship or designated funds.

The Foundation’s endowed, unrestricted funds that total nearly $9 million support the Foundation’s annual Discretionary Grant Program of $450,000.  The Foundation administers its Discretionary Grant Program through a periodic series of initiatives related to four areas of interest outlined below.  Application guidelines are prepared for each initiative and grant seekers need to apply in accordance with these guidelines.

The Foundation’s discretionary grantmaking program is centered on the following areas of interest:

  • A Multi-Year, Issue–Focused Initiative;
  • Capacity Building for Nonprofits;
  • Knowledge Development and Dissemination related to Current Community Issues
  • Knowledge Development and Dissemination related to Philanthropy and Volunteerism

The Foundation’s current, issue-focused initiative “Fathers – A Missing Piece of the Puzzle” was launched in January 2003.  In June 2003, the Foundation awarded six, three-year grants under the initiative which runs from July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2006 – click here for information on the initiative and the grantees.  The Foundation is no longer seeking applicants for this initiative.
